Men Win Fourth in a Row, Advance to Conference Semifinal
The Eagle men took a 2-0 win over Central Christian College of the Bible (CCCB) today in the MCC Conference Tournament quarterfinals. The win is the Eagles fourth in a row, and 9th shut out of the season. Faith improves to 9-6-1 on the year with the win.
Faith jumped out of the gates in the opening five minutes of play, as Dawson Barringer got in behind the CCCB defense off a nice pass from Ryan Koch for a quick 1-0 Faith lead three and a half minutes in. Forty seconds later, JJ Parkhurst scored off an assist from Joshua Huang to give Faith a 2-0 lead with just over four minutes gone in the first half. Faith looked to be headed for a quick blow out win, but CCCB regained their composure and Faith misfired on several first half opportunities including a penalty kick, resulting in a 2-0 lead for Faith at the half. Faith outshot CCCB 12-6 in the first half.
The Eagles struggled to gain any momentum in the second half, and actually had to be saved by keeper Jason Scheps a couple times in the second half to maintain the shutout. CCCB outshot Faith 7-6 in the half, but Scheps, along with the rest of the Eagles defense was able to maintain the blank sheet to record the 2-0 win.
Faith will now face top seeded Ozark Christian College tomorrow, with a trip to the conference tournament championship on the line. Ozark was the last team to score on the Eagles, when they posted a 1-0 victory over Faith in Ankeny back in late September. The game will kick off at 3 PM Friday.
