Short Handed Men Pull Out Road Win
The Faith men's soccer team traveled to Lincoln, IL to play Lincoln Christian University this past Saturday. Faith was down two starters, but still managed to pull out the victory. Faith is now 7-6-1 on the year.
The match began with Lincoln Christian creating difficulty for the Eagles defense as they had a few scoring opportunities that were either off target or had to be stopped by goalkeeper Jason Scheps. Once the Eagles were able to organize their back line and connect some simple passes the momentum began to shift.
The Eagles were able to create some good scoring chances of their own but were not able to get one past the Lion's keeper as they out shot Lincoln Christian 12-8, but the score remained knotted at zero at the end of the first.
Faith came out strong in the second half as they continued to mount attack after attack until in the 74th minute, Zach Peterson served in a free kick to Dawson Barringer who headed it across the box to JJ Parkhurst to smash in to the back of the net off a side-volley.
About 30 seconds after the first goal the Eagle's pressure defending led to a turnover and counterattack where Barringer carried the ball into the 18 yard box and took a shot that was able to be stopped with a diving save, but David Mohler followed the shot and put in the rebound.
The Eagles' defense was put to the test the final 10 minutes as Lincoln Christian pressed forward to get a goal back. Dead set on preserving the shutout, Scheps and the defense fought frantically to limit their chances and were able to finish the game with the 2-0 victory.
The Eagles out shot LCU 27-17 and Scheps earned his third straight and seventh overall shutout of the season. The Eagles next match will be Saturday at Calvary Bible College in Kansas City, MO.
