Men Play Rams to a 0-0 Draw
The Eagle men hosted NCCAA II North Central regional opponent North Central University this afternoon in a match up of two teams vying for the #2 seed in the upcoming regional tournament. After 110 minutes of play, the teams left things undecided, as they played to a scoreless draw. The tie means NCCAA Longo rating will be used to determine who receives the #2 seed in the tournament. Regardless, the teams will face each other in the semi-final on November 7th. The game will kick off at 3 PM and will be hosted by Faith.
North Central took control of the game early, with the first 15 minutes seeing the Rams maintain possession and put together an attack. Faith regrouped, though, and the game became an exciting back and forth affair for the next 95 minutes. Faith would build up and finish off an attack, with North Central quickly counter attacking off the save. The Eagles had three nice opportunities in the first half, but could not capitalize, while the Rams rattled the Eagles cross bar a couple times. The game was knotted 0-0 at the half.
The second half and ensuing golden goal overtimes were the same, with both teams attacking and counter attacking, and both defeneses and keepers making some great plays to keep their teams in the game. The last five minutes of regulation, and the two 10 minute overtime periods were some of the moste exciting minutes of the game, as both the Eagles and the Rams had several opportunities to end the game, only to see the opposing team's keeper make a great save to deny the attack. At the end of 110 minutes, with both teams exhausted, the final whistle blew signalling a 0-0 draw. North Central out shot Faith 30-14 overall, but Faith made the most of their scoring chances, putting 10 shots on goal to the Rams 9.
Faith will return to action on Saturday, when they will host MCC conference opponent St. Louis Christian College. A win guarantees the Eagles a #4 seed in the upcoming conferenc tournament, to be hosted by Faith October 24-26.
