The Eagle men split their slate of weekend games, gutting out a 1-0 victory over an inspired Emmaus Bible College team and falling to nationally ranked Ozark Christian College 0-1. Faith is 5-6-0 on the year and 2-3 in the conference with the loss to Ozark.
Faith played withouth leading goal scorer JJ Parkhurst for nearly all of the Emmaus game. Parkhurst went out with an injury early in the match, and the Eagle's offense failed to gain any momentum throughout the game. Anchored by sweeper Zach Peterson and keeper Jason Scheps, the Eagle's defense held strong, though, keeping the game scoreless into the half. It wasn't until the 72nd minute that the Eagle men finally broke through, as midfielder Joshua Huang put a ricochet into the back of the net for what would prove to be the game winner. The defense held off the Emmaus attack for the remaining 18 minutes, and the Eagle recorded their 5th win and fourth shut out of the season.
On Saturday, Faith hosted 9th ranked Ozark Christian College. The game was similar to the Emmaus game in that the Eagles offensive attack struggled to build any significant attack, but the defense was able to hold off the Ozark attack. Ozark out shot Faith 16-3 for the game. In the 29th minute, Ozark snuck a goal by keeper Jason Scheps to give Ozark the 1-0 lead. The Eagles defense played inspired in the second half, repeatedly fending off the Ozark attack. Scheps had several nice saves at the back of the defense, but Faith's inability to counter with any offensive threat gave Ozark the victory. Scheps recorded nine saves in the match.
Faith will try to get healthy in the next couple days before region rival North Central University comes to town. That game will be on Tuesday, October 1, at 4:00 PM.
