Men Grab First Win, Defeat Grace University
The Eagle men grabbed their first win of the young season this afternoon, defeating visiting Grace University 1-0. The Eagles prevailed despite a scorching heat and strong southwest wind during the second half, pulling their overall record to 1-3.
The game was an even match for most of the first half, with each team gaining chances but neither able to capitalize. Faith had the wind at their backs for the half, and the Eagles JJ Parkhurst had a nice opportunity midway through the first half but couldn't capitalize. Grace also had a couple opportunities, but couldn't put the ball in the net and at the half the score stood knotted 0-0. The second half was much the same, with both teams gaining opportunities but neither could finish. Faith battled the wind in the second half, but ended up being helped by it, as Parkhurst took a shot from 40 yards out which had some extra movement on it thanks to the wind, ending up in the back of the net to give the Eagles the 1-0 lead. Faith would repel several Grace attacks over the next 30 minutes as Eagles keeper Jason Scheps got the clean sheet with a 1-0 shut out victory.
Faith will be back in action on Saturday, September 14, at 1:00 PM when they will take on conference foe Calvary Bible College. The game will be part of the Eagles Homecoming festivities. All alumni are invited back to campus for the weekend, with special events running Friday night through Saturday evening. More information can be found here. The alumni men's soccer game will take place at 9:00 AM on Pyche Field.
