The Faith men's soccer team traveled to Kansas for a pair of Midwest Christian College Conference matches this past weekend. The first one was at undefeated and #4 ranked Manhattan Christian College. The Eagles defense started off a little shaky as they gave an open shot that went off the post just a few minutes into the game. They were able to recover and create their best scoring opportunity of the game as soph. JJ Parkhurst got behind the defense for a breakaway but was unable to capitalize on it. In the 22nd minute Manhattan scored as Faith was unable to clear a ball inside the 18 yard box. Manhattan scored two quick goals in the 30th and 31st minutes making the score 3-0 at halftime.
The Eagles couldn't get any breaks to start the second half as a ball deflected off a defender and in for an own goal just one minute into the half. Faith held their own throughout the half until Manhattan scored a final goal with just four seconds left on the clock.
The next day the Eagles headed to Haviland, KS to take on undefeated Barclay College. Faith took an early lead twenty minutes into the game as freshman Zach Peterson served a great ball into the box and where newcomers Ryan Koch and Dawson Barringer connected one-touch passes before putting the ball onto the foot of soph JJ Parkhurst who put it in the back of the net.
The Eagles were able to maintain the lead until just before halftime when they failed to clear a ball that was eventually put in the back of the net by Barclay. The game was knotted at 1-1 through the midway point of the second half when a cross went just outside the reach of goalkeeper Jason Schepps and put into the back of the net. The Eagles regrouped for the last 10 minutes and put together some dangerous attacks but were never able find the equalizer.
A steadily improving Eagles team looks for their first victory again Grace University from Omaha, NE Tuesday, Sept. 10th at Pyche Field in Ankeny, IA. The game will kick off at 4 PM.
