Defense Carries Eagles to Win Over Maranatha
WATERTOWN, Wisconsin—The Faith Eagles men's basketball team defeated Maranatha Baptist for the second time this season, thanks to a stifling defensive effort in a 59-44 victory.
The 44 points surrendered was the lowest of the season for the Eagles, whose defensive intensity carried over from the second half of Saturday's game against Calvary. Faith forced the Sabercats into 24 turnovers, leading to 16 points for the Eagles. Defense was the key as Faith's struggles on offense continued, connecting on baskets at a 30% clip for the game.
Jayce Goergen and Jared Pearson were the lone Eagles in double figures. Goergen had a game-high 22 points, while Pearson was right on his heels with 21. Sidlinger, Boyer, and Busenitz did the dirty work, combining for 22 rebounds, four steals, and two blocked shots.
With the win, the Eagles improved to 7-12 overall. Faith plays two more games this week to close out the regular season. Spurgeon College (3-14) comes to Ankeny on Thursday for Faith's final home game of the season. Game time is 5 p.m. The Eagles travel to Central Christian College of the Bible (12-11) on Friday for the final regular season game. Conference tournaments begin next week, also at Central Christian College.
