The #7 seeded Eagles met the #2 Barclay Bears in the first round of the MCCC Conference Tournament hosted at Manhattan Christian College this past weekend. Faith showed improvement from the previous meeting with the Bears, in which they were handed a 95-60 loss. Despite Faith's efforts to keep the contest close early on, Barclay slowly put the game out of reach for the Eagles. Faith came out strong in the opening minutes, seemingly unfazed by their higher ranked opponent. With a 17-12 lead after eight minutes, things looked to be in the Eagles' favor. Although the Bears tied up the score 20-20, Faith stayed right with them. However, the game took a quick turn when Barclay closed out the half on a 21-8 run. The Bears, now in command 49-32, stayed out in front the rest of the way. Barclay's 89-66 win sent Faith to the consolation side of the bracket and to yet another matchup with Emmaus Bible College.
The Faith Eagles met the Eagles of Emmaus on Friday for the third time this season. Similar to their history with Barclay, Faith struggled in the two regular season games against Emmaus but was then able to hold their own in the conference meeting. Faith yet again jumped out to an early lead, 16-9, before Emmaus caught up to even the score at 18-18. Emmaus took a late charge at the lead before the half and entered the break up by three, 29-26. A 12-2 run for Emmaus midway through the second half gave them the advantage they needed to keep the Eagles from climbing their way back. Faith suffered their third loss to Emmaus, 64-76, and completed their play in the conference tournament.
Keaton Pearson had a big offensive game for the Eagles on Thursday against Barclay. His 17 points made him the top point man, and Tanner Van Beek followed after with 13 points. On Friday, it was all Tanner Van Beek, as his double-double of 26 points and 13 rebounds kept the Eagles in it. Tanner Van Beek was recognized for his play over the year by being named 2nd Team All-Conference. The Faith Eagles also received the 2017-18 Sportsmanship Award.
Faith takes the court one last weekend for the NCCAA DII North Regional Tournament hosted at Faith Baptist Bible College. Faith's #8 seed puts them on the schedule to play #1 Providence University College in their first round game Thursday night at 8 PM.
