Faith Comes Up Short in Final Minute
With 50 seconds left to play, the Faith Eagles were on the brink of a big conference win over Central Christian College of the Bible (Moberly, MO) Friday night. After trailing by 10, with ten minutes to go, the men chipped away at CCCB's lead to tie it 57-57 with under a minute to go.
After a back-and-forth first half, the Eagles finished out the half down six points, 36-30, to the Saints. CCCB maintained that advantage for the majority of the second half, until the ten-minute mark. Faith brought on an 8-0 run to pull back to within two, before Joey Young came up with a steal and basket to even the score 57-57 and shift all the momentum the Eagles' way. Coming out of their timeout, the Saints converted on a quick bucket to regain the lead. Unfortunately, the Eagles were not able find someone to knockdown that late bigtime shot. Faith was forced to foul to get back possession of the ball, but CCCB went a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line and handed the Eagles a disappointing 67-62 loss.
Tanner Van Beek played a full game and led the Eagles offensively with 22 points. Sam Pedersen posted a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Joey Young also ended in double figure scoring with 15 points.
The Eagles turn around and head to Midland University (Fremont, NE) on Monday, January 29 for a 7 PM matchup with the Warriors.
