Faith's Second Half Comeback Falls Short
The Eagles made the trip to Lincoln, NE last night hoping that the contest against Union College would be a chance to end their losing streak. Having beat Union, 56-37, in their first game of the season, the Eagles felt confident with their chances. After falling behind early, Faith mounted a comeback in the second half to reclaim the lead but was unable to hold it until the end, ultimately suffering the 72-59 loss.
In what was an evenly matched game, the Eagles found themselves down by just 3 with two minutes to go in the half; but after a string of physical plays and Faith turnovers, the Warriors closed out the half on a 15-5 run to take a 10 point advantage into the break.
Coming out of halftime, the Eagles began to close the gap on Union's lead. Faith applied full court pressure, forcing Union to turn the ball over, and as a result, the Eagles went on an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to 4. The Eagles didn't stop there. At the thirteenth minute, Faith made another run, this time outscoring the Warriors 15-3, to take their first lead since the opening minute of the game, 51-46. As the clock ran down, Faith struggled to take care of the ball against Union's pressure and to make smart late-game decisions. The Eagles surrendered their lead to Union with five minutes left and would never get it back. The Warriors knocked down their free throws in the last three minutes, shooting 11-13 from the stripe, and secured the win over the Eagles.
With 22 points and 11 rebounds, Tanner Van Beek's double-double provided the boost the Eagles needed in this game. Sam Pedersen finished with 12 points, while Joey Young had 11. Caleb Brace, Jason Conable, and Joey Young each ended with 8 rebounds, as the Eagles dominated the glass over the Warriors, outrebounding them 45-26.
Faith's next game will be this Saturday, January 20, in Overland Park, KS against the Falcons of Kansas Christian College.
