Faith hosted their annual Faith Classic basketball tournament this past weekend, facing off with Trinity Bible College (Ellendale, ND) in the first of their two games. A slow start for the Eagles put them in a hole early. Between allowing Trinity to go off on a 21-0 run and struggling on the offensive end, the Eagles trailed 39-14 at halftime.
In the second half, the Eagles found some offensive rhythm and played evenly with Trinity, scoring 40 points to Trinity's 41; but the deficit from the first half was just too much for Faith to come back from, and the Eagles would fall to Trinity 80-54. Faith was led in scoring by Tanner Van Beek with 12 points, followed by Caleb Brace, who came in off the bench and put up 8 points and 5 rebounds.
The Eagles looked to bounce back on Saturday in a contest with AFLBS (Association Free Lutheran Bible School) of Plymouth, MN. Faith was able to overcome the first half offensive problems they'd had in their first two games, jumping out to a quick 12-4 lead and holding to that to lead 40-27 at the halfway point.
Faith came out of halftime and matched their intensity from the first. The Eagles offense extended the lead, putting the game out of reach for AFLBS. With just under ten minutes left, Faith went on a 25-5 run and earned their largest lead of the game, leading by 36. The Eagles would earn their second win of the season with a 75-46 victory. Tanner Van Beek posted yet another double-double, with 24 points and 13 rebounds. The Eagles crashed the glass and out-rebounded AFLBS 46-26.
The next contest for the Eagles will be in Cedar Rapids, IA on Monday, November 20, against Mount Mercy University.
