Men Start Off Semester with Conference Win
After a month off from competition, the Eagles returned to the court Friday night in a conference matchup against Barclay College (Haviland, KS). In what would be a close battle throughout, the Eagles came out on top and secured the 88-81 victory, improving their record to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the conference.
Barclay jumped out to an 8-2 lead over the Eagles but wouldn't stay up for long. Faith put together an 11-3 run to go up one on the Bears. Through the rest of the half, Barclay and Faith went back and forth for control of the lead, neither team ever going up by more than three until right before the half, when Faith held a 39-35 advantage.
The first part of the second half was no different from the constant back and forth action of the first. At the 10:20 mark, the Eagles would start what would end up being a 17-6 run, putting them ahead 69-62 with seven minutes left. Faith had opportunities to extend their lead at the free throw line but struggled to capitalize down the stretch, shooting just 13-27 over the last six and a half minutes. The Bears would make one last run at Faith in the last minute and cut Faith's lead to just 85-81. The Eagles were able to hold off Barclay and capture an 88-81 win.
Seniors Jason Scheps and Jon Luke Talton both finished with double-doubles, Scheps posting 20 points and 10 rebounds and Talton 26 points and 11 rebounds. Willie Felderman and Chase Clark made big contributions to Faith's rebounding efforts, Felderman pulling down 10 rebounds and Clark coming off the bench with 9.
Faith will host another conference game Saturday, January 14, at 4 PM against Manhattan Christian College (Manhattan, KS).
