Eagles Move to 2-1 in Conference
A day after falling to #6 Ozark Christian, the Eagle men responded with a team effort 75-60 victory over Calvary Bible College on Saturday. The win puts Faith at 7-5 overall and 2-1 in the MCCC conference.
After a quick 10-4 start for the Eagles, the game took on a familiar tone, as the Eagles missed six consecutive shots and turned the ball over once while allowing Calvary to score on five of their next seven possessions for an 11-0 run by Calvary. After opening the game 5/10 from the floor, Faith went 9/24 over the final fourteen minutes of the half. The game was tight throughout the half, with the lead changing hands several times, the last on a three by Calvary which gave them a two point 32-30 lead going into the break. Faith allowed Calvary to shoot 52% in the first half, including 63% from behind the arc.
Calvary held that lead for the first five minutes of the second half as Faith trailed 39-38 with 15 minutes remaining. Faith struggled to find any energy, but that changed around the 13 minute mark when Jon Luke Talton drove baseline with the way cleared out by Chase Clark for a thundering dunk that finally woke up the Eagle defense. Faith would go on a 17-6 run over the next six minutes to take a 10 point lead. Calvary would get no closer than eight the rest of the game as Faith pulled away for the final 75-60 margin. Faith held Calvary to 35% shooting in the second half and 27% from behind the arc.
Faith hosts #5 North Central University on Tuesday, January 19 at 6:30pm.
