Men Open Conference Tourney with Win
The Eagle men opened up the conference tournamen tonight with an 84-50 win over 8th seeded St. Louis Christian College. Faith moves on to the semi-final game with the win, which will be a tough match up with Manhattan Christian College. Faith is now 19-5 overall.
The Eagles jumped out to a 20-8 lead in the first six minutes of the first half and didn't look back. Leading 47-27 at the break, the Eagles would push the lead to as much as 35 in the second half as they went on to win by the final 34 point margin. All 12 men played at least 7 minutes, with 11 of the 12 notching double digit minutes. All but two men scored for the Eagles as well.
Faith shot 51% for the game while holding St. Louis to 30%. The Eagles outrebounded St. Louis 52-18, including 15 offensive rebounds. John Acree led the Eagles with 17 points and 9 rebounds. Cody Chaffin added 14 points, while Josh Bray finished with 13. Aaron Leistikow added 11. Eric Young and Willie Felderman each recorded 5 assists on the night. As a team, the Eagles handed out 27 assists on 34 made baskets.
Faith's semi-final match up with Manhattan will tip at 4:00 pm on Friday. The teams met once during the regular season, an early season game in Ankeny in which the Eagles pulled out a comeback win after trailing by 15.
