Rocha's Career Night Lifts Sluggish Eagles
Faith's men's basketball team was able to shrug off a sluggish night overall, as senior captain Jon Rocha's career night sparked the Eagles to a 70-62 road victory at Crossroads College. Faith moves to 15-4 on the year with the win.
Faith jumped out to a quick 14-6 lead in the first 5 minutes of the game, but Crossroads responded with their own 14-6 run over the next 5 minutes to pull even at 20 all. Faith would close out the half with another 14-6 run over the final 10 minutes to lead by 8 at the break. Out of the half, Crossroads would close to within one, 37-38, in the first five minutes, but Faith would then put the game away with a 19-6 run over the next 8 minutes as they pushed the lead to 14. Some late threes allowed Crossroads to hang around, but some timely steals by Jon Rocha and made free throws by John Acree would now allow the Knights to threaten, as the Eagles won by the 8 point final margin.
Rocha's career night included 12 points and some timely defensive plays. Josh Bray led the Eagles in scoring with 14 points, 10 of which came in the first half. Jon Luke Talton also finished with 12 points, while John Acree added 11. Aaron Leistikow scored 10 points while leading the team in rebounds and assists with 7 and 5 respectively. Cody Chaffin finished with 5 assists as well.
Faith outrebounded Crossroads 42-31, including 15 offensive rebounds. The Eagles only shot 40% from the floor on the night, but took advantage of 19 freethrow attempts to the hosts 12.
Faith hits the road again this weekend for two important MCCC games. The Eagles will play at Central Christian College of the Bible on Friday, then will travel to St. Louis Christian College on Saturday. Friday's game tips at 7:30 PM, while Saturday's will begin at 2:00 PM.
