Betz Smashes Record in Eagles Win Over Central Christian
Tyler Betz continued his record breaking career tonight with 51 points to lead the Eagles to an 85-74 victory. The Eagles were in control throughout, leading by as much as 26 late in the second half before Central Christian College of the Bible (CCCB) made a late push to close it to 11. Faith has won their last four games, is 5-10 overall, and 2-3 in the Midwest Christian College Conference.
The Eagles took control of the game early, again with solid defense and efficient offense, as they jumped out to a 21-2 lead in the first seven minutes of the game. Faith maintained the lead from there pushing the lead to 25 at 46-21 with one minute remaining before CCCB scored five unanswered to close out the half. Betz scored 28 in the first half and grabbed nine rebounds while handing out three assists. The Eagles pushed the lead to 26 quickly in the second half and then maintained that lead for the next thirteen minutes. Faith led by 23 and Betz was at 43 points with seven minutes to play as the Eagles went to their bench. CCCB responded with a full court press which resulted in a 12-0 run over the next five minutes and Betz re-entered the contest along with the rest of the starting five. Betz quickly made his presence known, scoring an and one and hitting three more free throws to break the record and seal the game. Tyler hit two more free throws as the Eagles closed out the game for the 85-74 win.
Betz's record setting line included 51 points, 14 rebounds, and three assists. Dillon Gingerich and Tim Jones provided good support, as Gingerich knocked down 14 points while grabbing four offensive rebounds, with Jones adding 10 points, four assists, and two steals.
The Eagles hit the road next Tuesday, when they travel to Dubuque, IA, to take on Emmaus Bible College. The Eagles will look to avenge an early season home loss to Emmaus. The game will tip at 7:00 PM.
